If something on this site is wrong, we want to know, and we will say so in public when we change it.
How to report a mistake
What to send
Send the page address and what is wrong with it to the address on the contact page. It helps enormously if you can point to the record that shows the correct version, but a plain "this does not match the transcript" is still worth sending. You do not need to be polite about it.
What happens next
- We check the claim against the primary record, not against other websites.
- If it is wrong, we fix it, usually within a few days.
- A substantive fix — a changed fact, name, date or number — is listed below with the date and what changed.
- Typographical and wording fixes are made without a log entry.
What counts as substantive
The threshold
A fact, a name, a date, a figure, an attribution, or a characterisation of what a document says. If a reader could have come away with a different understanding before the change, it goes in the log.

This archive was rebuilt from the ground up and every page was rewritten against primary sources during that rebuild. Corrections made from this point on are logged here with the date, the page and the change.
Takedown and privacy requests
If you are a person named on this site, or a family member of someone named, and you believe a page contains something that should not be public, write to us and say so plainly. We will not automatically remove material that is part of the public record, but we will read every request, reply to it, and remove anything we cannot justify keeping.
