Plain terms for a site that mostly just wants to be read.

Using this site

Quoting and linking

You may read, link to, quote and teach from anything here. Quoting a paragraph with a link back is fine and needs no permission. Copying whole pages to republish elsewhere is not.

Accuracy

Use the primary sources for anything that matters

We work hard to be right and we publish the records behind every page so you can check. Even so, this is a secondary source. For anything that matters — legal work, academic work, journalism — go to the primary documents listed on the sources page and read them yourself.

Outbound links point at documents and reporting held by other organisations. We do not control those sites and a link is not an endorsement of everything else published there.

Images

Reusing the illustrations

Illustrations on this site were generated for the archive and are captioned as artwork. They are not photographs of the events or people described. Please do not reuse them in a way that suggests they are documentary images.

No affiliation

This archive is independent. It is not connected to WikiLeaks, Reuters, any government, any armed force, or any campaign or legal team. Names and titles are used to describe the record, not to claim any relationship.

Liability

The site is offered as it is. We are not liable for decisions taken on the basis of what you read here. If you think a page is wrong, the corrections page is the fastest route to getting it changed.
